Palacio Nacional da Pena

18mm, f11, 1/500s Palacio Nacional da Pena

I needed to crop this photo square, because this was my square phase. It's a great feeling, on that rare occasion, when I get a keeper straight out of the camera.

For this shot I hid the blinding sun behind one of the pillars. I had to move my feet around, crouch a bit, and then wait a few seconds in the frame for some people to move out. If you strike a crazy pose and wave a camera near strangers, they do tend to move out.

Ideally I'd frame a human silhouette in the right opening, and try another focal length. The light was changing very quickly, so I had no time.

Back at the hotel, I adjusted the exposure in Lightroom to recover more highlights.
